Poison dart plant is toxic for dogs
Aglaonema commutatum 
The poison dart plant is an indoor ornamental plant with large striking silvery spotted leaves. It originates from Indonesia and belongs to the Araceae family. It reaches a maximum height of 0.5 metres. The flower of the poison dart plant consists of a white flower bulb surrounded by a white bract. The fruits are yellow, orange or red berries.
The leaves are particularly poisonous to dogs, but the water in the pot can also be poisonous. Poison dart plant contains oxalates, oxalic acids and saponins that are toxic to dogs.

Symptoms
The following symptoms may occur in case of poisoning:
- increased salivation
- irritation and swelling of the mucous membrane of the mouth
- nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and diarrhoea
- in the case of very severe poisoning, heart and kidney problems may also occur
Treatment
While in acute poisoning it is often advisable to try to remove the poison from the body, this is not advisable in the case of poison dart plants, as the poison irritates the mucous membranes and can lead to shortness of breath.
In the case of poisoning with poison dart plants, the vet will cool and treat irritated areas, give drinks or food containing calcium, and administer painkillers.
In case of very severe poisoning, monitoring of the heart and kidney function may be useful.
